From My Heart To You

Have you been there
when a grown man cries?
Watch him wipe the tears from his eyes

The anguish written upon his face,
As the memories he tries to erase.
The pain he tries so hard to hide,

When he remembers those
who fought and died.

The anger he feels deep in his soul,
When he hears one say, "No, I won't go."
To fight for the freedoms we all enjoy.
To preserve the liberties we all employ.

Recalling the names
of those who bled,

Those that suffered, those now dead.
He hears the cries of those against war,
And wonders what it was all for.
When gratitude is not realized,

That's what makes a grown man cry.
